Avril Mathie is an Australian boxer, model and fitness expert.
“I’m just a girl having a go at life and I hope that by my example I can inspire others to do the same. I want to show people that an ordinary kid that was kicked out of home at 15 years old and supported herself through the final year of high school can be anything she wants to be. In 2016 I moved to the USA with no visa, no job, no place to live and to Miami… where I had no friends. Partly because I love an adventure, but mainly to pursue my dreams of becoming a boxing world champion, model and role model. Basically, I want to have an impact.”
She started boxing late in 2012, and had her first amateur fight within 6 months. Her record now stands at 14 fights, 8 wins (1 TKO). She has won a number of state titles in Australia and has recently moved to Miami to further her career as both a boxer and model. She now trains at the World Famous 5th Street Boxing Gym (home to Muhammad Ali) and this year she competed in two of the largest amateur tournaments in the world; the USA Golden Gloves and the Ringside Boxing World Championships.
But Avril’s biggest claim to fame is winning Miss Swimsuit USA International 2014 – the biggest swimsuit pageant in the world – and more recently the $50,000 Las Vegas International Model Search in December 2015. These two prestigious international titles as well as a top 5 placing at the Miss Fashion TV International Diamond Model awards in Cyprus 2012 are the reason for her being touted as Australia’s most successful ever pageant model. Her achievements scored her a management contract in the USA where she now resides. Avril has worked part-time as a fitness and swimsuit model for the past 10 years sideline to her fitness career.
Since 2008, Avril’s main focus has helping others as a personal trainer. Originally, in the gym that she owned and managed with her ex-husband on the Gold Coast of Australia and since relocating to Miami in 2016, she now teaches out of the 5th St Gym in South Beach and travels the USA conducting bootcamps and workshops. Her success working with hundreds of both male and female clients and her own achievements in the boxing ring and on the catwalk are testimony to her extensive expertise. Avril’s influence on women around the world led her to create BodyBAM (Body by Avril Mathie); the online fitness program specifically tailored to women she has spent the past 3.5 years creating. She is of the belief that an enjoyable, balanced lifestyle is key, and that there is no such thing as a “one-size-fits-all” regime. Her objective is to educate and inspire young women on how they can achieve their goals, in fitness, life and beyond.
“While I am a devoted ambassador for the healthy lifestyle, I am just as big a believer in enjoying life and eating chocolate… It’s all about finding that happy balance.”
Avril’s entrepreneurialism and love of fashion and travel led her to create her 3rd company last year, Mathie Athletic, a luxe women’s fitness wear label she has manufactured in Brazil.

“I really love sharing my knowledge with other people, which is one of the reasons I started my blog. My life as a trainer has allowed me to build close and trusting relationships with so many amazing people and via my online fitness program and social media accounts, I can now connect with more people than ever before. As a model and athlete, I am regularly asked to promote products, companies, etc. and when I come across brands and their products that I truly love and believe in, I definitely want the world to know. Authenticity is the name of my game and because of this, my followers respond well. If you have a product you think I will love, please get in contact with your business / sponsorship enquiries.”
